ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Help for ShowBMP ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
ShowBMP displays a bitmap.
The bitmap can be read from a file, pasted from the clipboard, or created by
capturing the desktop.
The bitmap can be saved to a file or copied to the clipboard.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select File to Open or Save a BMP file.
You can Exit the application here, too.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Help for Open ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Open will display a dialog box with which you can select and open directories
and files.
OS/2 (v1.3 and v2.0) and Windows bitmaps can be opened.
ICONS and POINTERS can also be viewed but you may prefer to use the ICON
EDITOR.
Files containing bitmap arrays (multiple bitmaps in various formats in a single
file) can be opened. A second dialog box will list the formats found. Select
one of the formats.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Help for Save ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Save will display a dialog box with which you can select and open directories
to save files.
Bitmaps are saved in OS/2 v2.0 format.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Help for Exit ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Exit will close ShowBMP.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Help for Edit ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Edit to CLEAR the bitmap or COPY or PASTE a bitmap using the clipboard.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. Help for Clear ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Clear discards the bitmap displayed in the main window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2. Help for Copy ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Copy allows you to select a portion of the bitmap which will be copied to the
clipboard.
The cursor is replaced by a Copy Rectangle which tracks the mouse while the
mouse is over the bitmap.
Mouse button 2 anchors the lower left corner of the Copy Rectangle. By holding
down the button, the upper right corner of the Copy Rectangle tracks the mouse.
This way, the desired section of the bitmap can be selected.
Click on button 1 to copy the selected portion to the clipboard.
The copy operation can be cancelled by selecting Edit and Copy again to remove
the checkmark.
Cancelling the copy operation may leave a vestigial Copy Rectangle behind.
Resize the application window a little to clean it up.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.3. Help for Paste ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Paste copies a bitmap from the clipboard into the main window.
If no bitmap is displayed, the clipboard bitmap is pasted immediately and
becomes the current bitmap. The paste is then cancelled.
Otherwise, the cursor is replaced by a rectangle which tracks the mouse.
Pressing mouse button 1 pastes the clipboard bitmap into the image within the
rectangle. The clipboard bitmap can be overlaid anywhere in the current bitmap
and becomes part of that bitmap. The rectangle is set to the size of the
clipboard bitmap and cannot be resized.
Pasting a large bitmap into a small one causes a piece of the former to replace
the latter.
Pasting while stretch is active produces unpredictable results.
The paste operation can be repeated until Edit and Paste is selected again to
remove the checkmark.
Paste may leave traces of the paste rectangle particularly if the mouse is in
motion when button 1 is pressed or when the operation is cancelled. Resize the
application window a little to clean it up.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Help for Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Options to stretch a bitmap.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. Help for Stretch ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Stretch to stretch or compress the bitmap to fit the application window.
Turn off Stretch before copying to the clipboard. The Copy Rectangle location
does not account for a Stretched bitmap.
The display is corrupted if part of the window becomes uncovered while stretch
is selected. If this happens, resize the window a little.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Help for Capture ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Capture to take a snapshot of the desktop and display it as a bitmap.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Help for Open ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Open to select a bitmap:
1. Select the down arrow to the right of the Drive list to display all the
drives on your system.
2. Select a drive from the Drive list.
3. Select a directory from the Directory list.
4. Select a file name from the File list or type in a file name.

box.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.6. Help for Open ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Open to accept all information in the window, remove the window from
the screen and display the bitmap.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.7. Help for Cancel ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Cancel to remove the window from the screen without saving any changes.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.8. Help for Dither ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Dither to approximate a custom color palette.
On devices which have fixed color palettes, the desired color can be
approximated by using a combination of available colors in adjacent pels.
Otherwise, the closest available color is substituted for the desired color.
Dither may or may not improve the appearance of the image. It has no effect if
the bitmap palette is the same as the device palette.
Dither is applied when the bitmap file is opened and increases the time needed
to load the image. Once loaded, there is no performance hit.
If the dithered image is saved, it can then be loaded without this option since
the custom palette has been replaced by the device palette.
Only uncompressed, 8-bit bitmaps can be dithered.
